Building Tour: Thomas Nelson High School

Location: 2885 New Shepherdsville Road (Hwy 245), just west of Bardstown KY
Description: Take a tour with Studio Kremer Architects through Thomas Nelson High School. For the first time Nelson County Schools will have more than one high school, splitting the population of the over-crowded Nelson County High School. At just over 150,000 sf, Thomas Nelson High School was designed for 1,000 students and was the first high school in Kentucky to be recognized under the EPA’s “Designed to Earn the Energy Star” program. The project’s Architects will present their project and discuss ICF construction, daylighting strategies, and use of on-site water collection for athletic irrigation. The tour will demonstrate the collaboration between Studio Kremer and the school administration in an aggressive branding and identity effort.

Description: Join us for a 45 minute AIA CEU presentation titled “Permeable Pavements Using Clay Pavers”. The presentation will discuss Permeable Pavers Stormwater Management, Pavement details, maintenance, site opportunities and applications and qualifying for LEED credits. After the presentation, take a tour through the brick yard and working plant during full operation. During the tour you will observe the process of producing block from aggregate to mixing to curing to packaging.
